Cedar Falls - Hocking Hills Park, Ohio

A few weekends ago I coerced my husband into accompanying me to Hocking Hills so I could get some fall colors shots of the area--well coerced is a strong word, he basically just didn't want me traipsing around there on my own so he was my chaperone. We originally thought to go down on a Saturday but after seeing that there were many photographic tours going on, I thought Sunday would be better and I'm glad I did--the day was bright, warm and sunny and completely enjoyable. I wasn't too concerned about less water flow in the fall because we had just had about two weeks straight of rain to keep water levels up.

Cedar Falls is one of the many waterfalls in the area, which Hocking Hills has both big and small, and it is the largest waterfall by volume in the park. While others may be taller and in more ostentatious areas, this one is nestled back in a valley and moves the most water out of them all. It's also one of the most distinct with the rock in the center of the falls causing a beautiful split in the water before it comes together again to flow into the shallow pond. The name "Cedar Falls" was given mistakenly by settlers who mistook the hemlock that grow in the area for cedars.
