Taken at Silver Creek Metro Park - Norton, OH

While out in a quick 15 minute photojam before going into work on a glorious and quiet morning, I glanced over to see this blue heron walking along the edge of the lake, his eyes intent on the water. How he saw anything beneath the moss that floated on the still surface is beyond me.

After I was satisfied with the photos I got of the lake, I jogged back to my car to throw on the 70-300 lens and carefully approached. He was trusting enough to let me get within about 20 feet of him and snap off shots as he attempted to fish for his breakfast. Eventually he got sick of the paparazzi and flew off and I skipped all the way back to my car, knowing I got some good shots of him.

I was lucky to meet up with another blue heron last year in the pond next door to my house as well:

I do too! Growing up in central Illinois we didn't have that and then to come out here and have all of these parks to choose from and all the wildlife that visits it...it's wonderful!

Great capture in the early morning light. You must have very steady hands to shoot at 1/60 @ 300mm. The bird is pretty sharp with wonderful details. Good shooting!

Thanks!! Ironically these hands will never be a surgeons! But I've learned to steady my elbows on my knees and let the VR on my lens do the rest to help out.
