Taken at Rockefeller Greenhouse - Cleveland, OH
The Greenhouse is nice because they always have a nice variety of orchids in their building year-round. The Botanical Garden has a small bit as well but they usually wait to wow us until the Orchid Show (coming up in a couple weekends!), so when I want to see some orchids I come here.
This is a Lady Slipper Orchid, so named for the pouch in the front that looks like a lady's slipper or its scientific name is Paphiopedilum. One interesting thing about orchids is that their name derives from the Greek orkhis, meaning testicle, given this name due to the shape of the root. Weird....
