Poised to Fly by tleach0608 Poised to Fly by tleach0608
Taken at Pittsburgh National Aviary - Pittsburgh, PA

My husband and I took a day-trip out to Pennsylvania to the Pittsburgh Zoo and their Aviary; I'd never been to either and was excited for the trip. Our first stop was at the Aviary where I should say both Mike and I were very impressed. The Stellar's Sea Eagle is the first bird that you see upon entering the Aviary, they have floor to ceiling glass and these birds are not shy about standing right in front of it. To see them at the Cleveland Zoo is beautiful to but see how immense they are up close like this was fantastic.

I caught this photo on our way out when the male was standing near the glass while the female gathered sticks to make her nest. He was truly stunning to stand so near and see him so poised.

After the Akron and Cleveland it wasn't necessarily a knock your socks off zoo but it was nice and the aviary is a MUST SEE. But it's a couple miles away from the Zoo so plan for two stops!

Beautiful birds.
I have had the privilege to be real close to these birds before, too. They are quite impressive!

Nice job with the light in his eye and the detail!

They're a little bit bigger--about 1 1/2 foot taller and their wingspan averages around a foot longer but they're both in the same sea eagle family!

And THANKS!!!

LOL Yep! An osprey can be about 24 inches tall while the Stellar's Sea Eagle is around 34-41 inches tall. =D
