Taken at the Akron Zoo - Akron, OH
This was one of my first shots of Shanti, the female snow leopard at the Akron Zoo. There is no doubt that she is absolutely stunning with eyes that can hypnotize you.
One thing I love about Shanti is that she is full of energy, a few moments after this shot, she came bolting forward and climbed the glass, running along it for a few steps. She is also not intimidated by eager faces looking at her through the glass--often she will interact with my lens when it's close and she rubbed against the glass a few times while I just stood there in awe.
For those who noticed, the damage to her ear occurred on Friday evening (Feb 12) during an off-exhibit introduction between Shanti and the male snow leopard Roscoe. She evidently rubbed her head against the fence and Roscoe got too excited on the other side. No hostile behavior was observed and the Akron Zoo staff continue to show exemplary and outstanding care for these animals.
