Green Tree Python
Taken at the Akron Zoo - Akron, OH

Despite a similar photo like this winning 2nd place in the Akron Zoo's Shutterbug contest this year, I still felt it needed something more--more mood or depth I think, though there certainly wasn't anything wrong with the first one.

Getting these shots end up being easier that it might seem, when you think about low light and then adding macro lenses on top of that where if you breathe that the subject gets out of focus...But when the snake is on a branch on the other side of the glass at the perfect distance...well, one simply rests the lens on the glass as a stabilizer and voila!

I really do like this one better, the darker shadows to this gives it a sense of depth and mood that the other didn't, in my personal opinion. The other just seems flat compared to this, even if the other shows off more detail on the green tree python. =)

Here is the other one for comparison, from my Scraps:

Edit: Oh my goodness!! Thanks so much for the DD on this and thank you to everyone in advance for your :+fav: of it! I am so very very honored by the DD and everyone's love for it!

I find it hard to critique photos, I'm more comfortable with critiquing drawings and such. I'm not a professional, so if something I say isn't right or I'm being plain ignorant, please don't hessitate to correct me. C:

I really find this photo stunning. The close detail really captures attention to it's eye, and it's scales.
The blue background really goes well with the green snake, as green and blue are cool colours. Whether this was intentional or not, it certainly makes it pleasant to look at.
Another small thing I like personaly is that your signature isn't a big thing that distracts the viewer from the photo itself. So many people make large signatures, so kudos for that. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)"/>

Some cons of the photo could be that the highlight is too strong in the background.
Also, half the head is out of focus, which kind of detracts from the photo in my oppinion. Others may not care, which is fine.
Another thing is the snake's blurry body in the foreground is distracting. It's a great part of the photo, but it stands out too much in my oppinion.

All in all, this is a very nice photo. It really shows the charm and intrigue of this snake.

Congratz on the DD, by the way. That's one way to start the new year. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)"/>
